Diageo 2018 Scotch Whisky Special Releases Collection

NjF85J9wTen remarkable Scotch Whiskies will be released in limited quantities this autumn, as part of
Diageo’s annual Special Releases collection. Eagerly anticipated by whisky enthusiasts and
knowledge hunters worldwide, the limited edition natural cask strength bottlings are
meticulously hand-selected each year by a masterful blending team, to form a rare and soughtafter
collection.

Impeccably crafted and beautifully packaged, the collection encompasses some of the rarest and
oldest whiskies from famous, lesser known and often closed distilleries. Each whisky within the
2018 Special Releases range is a limited edition rare bottling that represents a fragment of
Scotch Whisky history. These whiskies have been crafted to be cherished and enjoyed
responsibly.

This year’s collection celebrates a year of firsts, from the first inclusion of an INCHGOWER
bottling, to the ingenious and unique five-cask process used to triple mature THE SINGLETON
GLEN ORD 14 year old. There are ten bottlings in all, nine of which have previously been
announced.

Diageo has announced CLADACH as the 10th bottling. Cladach is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
that captures the character of Scotland’s coastline, features a blend from six renowned coastal
distilleries – Caol Ila, Clynelish, Lagavulin, Oban, Inchgower and Talisker. Gaelic for the word
‘shoreline’, CLADACH embodies maritime aromas of salt, warm sand and seaweed, and is salty
with rich honey and citrus notes in taste.

For the first time since the collection’s launch in 2001, Port Ellen and Brora will not be included
in the range. Although Diageo has announced the re-opening of the new Port Ellen & Brora
distilleries, the current stocks from the original distilleries are diminishing. As such, we have
decided to give Port Ellen and Brora the single-minded focus they deserve. They will still be
available to purchase and enjoyed by consumers as annual bottlings. More details will be
announced in due course.

About the Special Releases
During the late 1980s, the benchmark expressions of single malt whiskies from six single malt distilleries
became well known under the CLASSIC MALTS name. Interest in older and rarer malt whiskies in general
also grew during this period. One product of this was the RARE MALTS, a series of rarer releases begun
in 1995, and which ended in 2005. There remained a demand for unusual, distinctive, often older,
unrepeatable cask strength bottlings, usually of the CLASSIC MALTS. Such bottlings allowed collectors,
connoisseurs and enthusiasts to enjoy and experience remaining older stocks, and/or unusual expressions
of a distillery’s character - a treasure trove of priceless malts. To satisfy this demand, the SPECIAL
RELEASES series was born in 2001, and the annual collection - with familiar names and some surprises -
has been eagerly awaited by enthusiasts ever since.
