Mai Tai 44
Serve separately in a glass, or get creative and serve as a punch, this cocktail is a tribute to Barack Obama’s Hawaiian roots (where it became fabulously popular). Polynesian in name, the Mai Tai is the quintessential all-American cocktail, created in San Francisco in 1944 by Vic Bergeron of the notorious Trader Vic’s. With Mount Gay Rum and Cointreau as ingredients, it’s the perfect inauguration party cocktail to honor the 44th president.
2 oz. Mount Gay Eclipse Rum
½ oz. Cointreau
½ oz. Orange Juice
1 oz. Pineapple Juice
Splash of fresh lime juice
Splash of grenadine
1 tbsp. Sugar
Pour into cocktail shaker.
Shake with ice.
Strained into glass filled with ice.
Add orange wedge or, for a fresh change, add a sprig of mint.
